PS3 on 20" TFT Monitor

I have a 20" widescreen TFT monitor with DVI and VGA inputs, and the resolution goes upto 1680x1050.

I bought a HDMI>DVI lead but it doesn't want to to work on this monitor, I tried it on my other monitor and it did work.

What's the easiest way to get a decent picture on this montior? I assume problems are arising from it being unable to do 720p or 1080p and the PS3 doesn't have a manual resolution setting for HDMI...

Possibly because the one it does work with supports HDCP and this one doesn't. Video from the PS3's HDMI is encrypted and only HDCP monitors support it.

Maybe some kind of PS3 vga box? hd fury or whatever its called?
