Thanks, it looks to be the model I'm going for unless something else appears which I've not noticed before.

It means that I don't have to pay anything on top of the refund if I buy it elsewhere but at the moment I'm checking to see if John Lewis will price match as they list it at £500.

I'd much rather stay with John Lewis if I can, it simplifies things and I really want the free 5 year guarantee.

I know it's not really important but I'm starting to absolutely love the glass surround on the telly!

I did also have a look at a few of the newer Panasonics as they seem to be very highly recommended all round but they are quite a step up in price and this was/still is a bit of an impulse buy rather than something we planed on.

Nielo's review has loads of set up advice for the TV but is there any general advice for Samsung sets that are worth bearing in mind?

At the moment I'm quite happy going with this set but I'm not going to read any more about it as the more I read the more I'm concentrating on the negatives. I think I'm really going to need to replace that remote straight away though, maybe for a universal remote.

I've got that TV. Put a wee post in the LCD/plasma questions thread about it too. I'm by no means an expert on the matter but I think its fantastic and was really the only viable option I could see when I bought it two months ago.

It's good to hear that you're feeling positive about it which most people do seem to be.

I've not read anything about anybody else having problems with the stand so it may just be down to how you did it. Once its set up ours won't really be touched so there should be no issues with wobble.

Can't imagine I'll use the onboard speakers as I'll use the optical out but as you said, onboard speakers aren't designed for high quality audio.

I have the Samsung LE40C580 as well. You get a lot of TV for the 400 pounds including divx/xvid support off usb drive or network share and freeview HD as standard.

The onboard speakers aren't that bad either

Probably going to pick one of these up if I can't get a reasonably priced panny g20 - I'd really like to have the extra freesat functionality but I can live without it..

I've had another email from them today advising that they don't price match with replacements. I need to get a refund and then place a brand new order for them to reduce it by ?100 which is going to delay things.

That's what I did, it's easy enough to do but it just seemed a daft way to deal with it. The new set has an estimated release of Friday 18th which is lucky as I'll be off work then.

I've finally had a reply about the packaging which said to just stick it in a new box which is what I would have done but I wanted to make sure there was no issues with it not being the original box.

                  The email ended like this...

With a bit of luck I'll be able to use the new box to send the old set back in which saves me messing around buying stuff at the post office.

OK, this is where it gets really interesting/annoying/ridiculous.

Was talking to a mate about an hour ago about and his really into the AV side of things and could happily about things I have no understanding of for hours.

After I told him about what had happened he laughed and said...
Give me five minutes and I'll have it working for you.
Of course, I think I'm not having him anywhere near the set with a screwdriver but he turns up with a some HDMI cables.

He unplugs my HDMI cables plugs one of his in and tells me to watch the screen, he turns it on and it works perfectly.

He switches it of and starts it up again with another one of his cables and tells me that it won't work this time and sure enough I have the same problem as always.

Same again with the third and this time he tells me it will work and again he's spot on.

I tell him that I've checked both PS3s with various HDMI cables and it's made no difference, with a big smile on his face hew asks if I know what the difference between the two HDMI cables that work and all the others are.

This where the surprise, he tells me they are official PlayStation 3 HDMI cables and some people who are using cheaper cables have had this problem since the last firmware update do changes on the security side which means that some cables won't allow the PS3 to handshake properly!!!

I've tried the official cables on both PS3s, I've switched between downloadable games, blu-ray games, DVDs, blu-ray films, streaming films and I've been doing this for an hour and I've not once had a problem.

He's advised me that the cables don't have to be the official HDMI cables but if you use cables which aren't as good on the security side which he says is probably going to be the cheapest of cables then they may just be rejected.

I paid about ?5 for each of mine a few years ago and not one of them works with either PS3 now. Of course, you may buy a really cheap and have no issues at all.

He's left me one of his official HDMI cables here and I've ordered a couple although I'm sure I could have gone for cheaper cables and still been OK but I just want to be sure.

So I've got a new TV being on Friday which won't be opened and will go straight back to Amazon because of their lovely 30 days return policy otherwise I'm going to have a living room like a U2 concert with a lovely collection of screens.

I'm going to have to get in touch with that bloke in John Lewis who already thinks I'm insane and try explaining this one to him. I'm surprised that I've not read of more people having these issues after finding out about it I have read about other people also needing to do the same.

I've probably not explained the details very well but that's purely I don't really understand what I'm talking about.

This is exactly why I always buy official cables!

At least you've got it sorted now John. Good stuff!

Well I usually do to be honest, everything else I have is official stuff but I just felt that they're HDMI cables so if they work they'll all work the same. They had worked perfectly and they still do on every other piece of HDMI compatible hardware that I own.

After a week or so of messing around with stuff for I'm just so pleased to finally get it sorted out and I've ended up with the telly that I really wanted!

                          Stupid digital signals!

What would be classed as an Official PS3 HDMI cable then? I use a Belkin PureAV for my PS3. £5 on eBay before anyone asks. :P

The official ones are just PS3 branded cables, I have seen them in shops before but they do tend to be quite pricey.

From what my mate was saying though, they don't have to be the official cables it's just that he tends to buy official stuff also and you know they'll be good enough to do whatever is needed.

I'm sure if they needed to be the official cables then we'd have all heard about this long ago as I'd imagine only a very small minority of people will have bought the official stuff.

Crazy who'd of thought that the cheap ones would be lacking in the ability to send an electrical signal
