Wow. Copy protection screws people again.

Maybe I can put this to an HDMI expert and figure out the real reason. I'm sure it's nothing malicious on Sony's part.

I can't really imagine that it's anything that's been done on purpose where they just prevent certain cables from working.

I know that some sort key is sent using HDCP between devices although I have no idea how it works but I suppose it may just be that it's not been implemented correctly and the way its checked has been altered.

I don't really know how my mate knew this or even if it;s more that he's guessing it from what he's read online with a few people having this problem. It worked for me anyway and hopefully other people who have had issues elsewhere will be able to find this thread.
