    Pairing memory modules?

Seems that one of my ram sticks has died in one of my desktops, infact when its in there its crashing memtest 0_o, but with the other one it flys by, so need a replacement stick.

How important is it to pair it with the same brand sick, also does it have to have this ? 5-5-5-15 ...is this the timing or something, whatever thats what the stick has, do I need the same on the other.

Also, would it be better to just get one 2GB stick and throw it in, or is dual channel better?

    Cheers.

The computer will set timings and frequency based on the slower module but this should be the only problem you'll encounter.

[edit] forgot about dual channel: it gives a decent performance boost, but modules must match in size, frequency and number of chips per side. If you are able to track sown the same type of module you already have, activating dual channel should be no problem.
