I really have no idea with this one. I was going to sell this laptop as it has been rock solid but since I've upgraded I think this ones got emotional and has now started going all bizarre.
Basically heres the issue,
A couple of days ago it'd just boot to a stuck egg timer cursor on a black screen, this was totally random and sometimes it'd do it, sometimes it'd go straight into my XP desktop, other times it'd stick on the egg timer for about 20 seconds and go into my desktop. One of the three.
Did the usual spyware scans and all that, nothing found. Re-imaged the machine and it was fine for a day or two, and then the same thing again.
Since then, its got stranger. I always use a small USB notebook mouse on laptops as I can't stand touchpads and disable them in the synaptics control panel tool, recently it's been acting like the right or left mouse button is stuck down. If I unplug the mouse, it'll do it anyway with the touchpad.
I thought it might just be a windows issue, so I removed the USB devices and the mouse and let it reinstall them, which did nothing. I reimaged the machine and after a while the stuck mouse button problem was back.
I boot an ubuntu liveCD just to check if its an actual hardware fault and not a hardware problem, and it's in there too so definitely a hardware issue. So I take the machine apart to see if theres any shorts or half plugged in headers or whatever. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Now heres the strange bit, I'm typing this on it now and its completely fine, I'm moving the touchpad with my finger and its perfectly normal, no stuck buttons, using the usb mouse is fine also.
Just booted the liveCD again and it was completely fooked, stuck button again etc, back into windows, perfectly fine.
I don't get it, I challenge anyone to find the root of this one apart from posting 'lol touchpad is broken m8' , these intermittent problems are the absolute worst to diagnose.
I was going to sell this as finally working but now it seems it'll have to be spares and repair.
Cheers to anyone with a shred of a valid response!
