Jpn ps2 - memory card question

will the memory card Im using on my us ps2 also work on a japanese ps2 without having to format, or is a seperate memory card necessary like on gc?

If the later, are memory cards universal? I.e a card bought in Game will work on a japanese ps2.

Yep - saves from all regions (inluding PAL) can sit nicely on the same card
