    Dolphin emulator and resolution issues

    Hi all,

    Hoping one or two of you arte familiar with Dolphin and may be able to help.

    I am running Dolphin on my iMac on Windows 7 via Bootcamp all games run perfectly in their windowed mode, however when in fullscreen mode they run slow. Ok I thiught is obviously the fullscreen resolution - which on my iMac is a whopping 2560x1440.
    However if I drop the fullscreen resolution lower on Dolphin then half the image is cut off!? Also changing my windows desktop display resolution doesn't seem to help. Can anyone tell me how to make the image display properly on fullscreen - even with a low res as I just want full speed emulation.

    Cheers

    Why don't you use the OSX build?

      Because the P.C build is faster and in essence the Mac build is no faster, while it displays in fullscreen it is slower because the Mac build uses OpenGL rather than D3D

          Hmmm, I'd be interested to know what settings your running and what sort of speeds you're getting if poss mate on the Mac build.

            The Direct3D plugin is known to be faster.

              Yeah I thought the D3D plug-in was, anyone have any idea's how to get a decent speed fullscreen? The Mac OSX build runs ok fullscreen, but I know it'd run way better if I could figure the Windows 7 bootcamp resolution side of things.

                I am pretty sure I ran Skies on windows fullscreen. I will check for you when I get back tonight if I remember, have you played Skies on OSX? As I don't think I got good speeds on my 27" : (

                I don't suppose anyone knows a PSP emu thats works on OSX well, as my niece has stolen mine forever it seems : (

                Also have you tried PCSX2 on the mac, put my bios across but can't get Ico to work at all!

                  I think Ico is problematic, I will check when I get back tonight, but have heard it has some issues.
                  Apparently you can get Dolphin to use turbo boost, to knock the cpu to over 3ghz, but I can't figure out how to do that - any ideas!?

                    Latest builds are here;

                    I use some pretty standard settings;

                    Enable CPU access - unchecked
                    Scale copy to texture
                    enable OpenCL

                    Works lovely.

                      I think Ico is pretty much the holy grail of PS2 emulation. I don't believe it's ever been correctly emulated in software. The emulation would need to have code in it specifically for that game to have any hope of working I reckon (I did a bit of research after being advised, on here, that full PS2 emulation in software was pretty much impossible).

                        hmmm, I'm using the latest build also and some titles run amazingly, where some you'd expect to run, such as New Super Mario Bros - which is supposed to require low system specs, run terribly. Very odd. I'll meddle some more when I get home.

                        Do you know if turbo boost is kicking in? (if you have a new imac of course )

                        Really? I thought there were just issues with the fog?

                          Well, has issues = not correctly emulated
                          Not saying you can't play it. I don't think it crashes or anything just that it probably doesn't look spot on.

                            ah gotcha

                            I think I may have figured the issue in Dolphin, I think I may need to change the EFB settings from RAM to texture and give an unofficial SVN build a go, seems to speed things up according to youtube and some other sites.

                              Let me know how you get on with that (and if you happen to try Donkey Kong Country), thanks for the input on Ico too I checked the PCSX2 forums and some people seem to be playing it fine, I just checked the windows version and that works but on the OSX just a black screen still.

                              I found JCPSP I think for the Mac but not sure it is any good.
