Faulty play and charge kit?

Bought myself a brand new silver special edition 360 controller from argos this morning, got it home, whacked in the rechargeable battery and hooked up the P+C kit.

Problem is, while it's charging the light will only show red for about a minute, before switching to green. I take the cable out and the pad switches off, as if there's no charge in it.

Should I be heading back to argos with it? I seem to recall my last kit doing the same but it seemed to resolve itself over time.

I have 1x Controller that doesn't charge via my play and charge cable but another controller that does fine.

I'm pretty sure I've still got my play and charge kit (don't use it anymore - Standalone charger) that you can have for price of postage if I can find it?

Yeah, I'd take it back and get it replaced then. One of my batteries does that occasionally, but seeing as it's been in almost constant use for two years, then it might be expected. The trick I use to get it charging properly again is:

- remove battery pack from controller
- plug charge kit into controller, wait for it to activate and charge lead light to be green
- insert battery, but don't quite push it far enough in at the top to click
- wait for red light to come on charge lead
- wait a few seconds, and then remove battery
- plug battery back in properly
- wait and see if the light stays red. If not, repeat from the start until it does

Usually only takes 2-3 tries of this for it to stick...

I can't get the battery pack to fit into the controller unless I put it in before the charge kit - how do you manage it?

Unless Microsoft have changed the cable somehow in the two years since I bought mine... there's more than enough gap at the top to be able to angle the battery in and then close it up underneath where the cable connects to the controller.

This is a shot of what my cable looks like. Even with that in the top of the controller, there's easily space to still attach the battery into the back of the pad.

Right, well I seem to have finally gotten the battery in and out with the kit attached, problem now is that the charge kit won't activate unless it's connected to the battery - leads me to believe the cable is faulty.

Edit: scratch that, the P+C with battery works fine in another pad, assuming now that there's a connection problem between the new pad and the battery.
