help after downloading latest version of avast (blue screen)!!

Avast (free anti virus software) asked me to do an update (which i did) and then restart the computer. I was then greetrd with a blue screen (critical error message)

can anyone tell me (in laymans terms) how i go about fixing this?

Press F8 while booting from the hard disk on startup, choose safe mode, and when back in Windows uninstall Avast. Not sure why you're having problems though, as it's quite a good piece of software.

Funny you should mention that, I had to roll back to a system restore point a few days ago after updating a recent avast installation. It's been fine since.
As hohum says, safe mode then uninstall is your best bet.

Oh great, i've done the update this morning but not restarted my pc yet, hopefully I don't have this problem to look forward to.
