    Japanese Saturn Video Issues

I picked up a Japanese white saturn while I was over there at the end of the last year, and it seems to have problems with every video output I try with it. For reference I'm using a Panasonic HD LCD, if that makes any difference.

Composite - Waves going across the screen. They vary in noticeability, sometimes they're quite noticeable, sometimes you have to be fairly close to the screen to see them. Either way they're very much *there*, and playing like this tends to result in horrible headaches after a few hours.

S-Video - Same as the above.

RGB Scart - Oddly enough doesn't seem to have the wave issues of the above, but instead it has the typical on-RGB-off-RGB voltage issues (where the picture moves up and down very slightly every few seconds, though it can be anything between 2 or 10 seconds between flickers) that seem to plague a lot of people. I've tried both with a standard UK Scart cable and a NTSC one bought from adapter_man on ebay, both have the same issue.

I've done as much research as I've been able to on the above, though haven't seen anything on the wave issue, and the Scart one seems to either boil down to recommendations to buy some Argos switcher (and naturally all of the links are broken because I presume they've stopped selling it) or soldering and a lot of technical talk. It seems like a user here was able to make cables that got round this at one point, but that was two years ago.

Soldering is pretty much out of the question as I have neither the tools nor expertise (or for that matter the confidence) to try it. So with that in mind, are there are any possible solutions to this these days or should I just write the saturn off as a waste of money and move on with my life? Much as RGB Scart is better I'd honestly be willing to settle for working S-Video quality if it wasn't for the waves and headaches. I'd rather not settle for Composite though, though it has the same issue as S-Video anyway.

Cheers for any help anyone has to offer. I've put off asking this thinking maybe one more google search would produce something, but I'm pretty much out of ideas now.

have you tried it on a crt tv?

I had issues with playing an modded n64 (rgb) on a samsung LCD. That set had no image retention issues, other than when i used the saturn (the logo at the start)

dont think it will look too hot anyway, unless you are looking to invest in an upscaler

Yeah, it works fine via RGB on my old CRT, but that's only a 10 inch portable and isn't exactly particularly comfortable to play games on when you're used to much bigger (can't believe I used to use it from like 3 metres away as a kid). Not got any others lying around these days that I could use, and spending what little money I have on a new CRT in 2011 for one console that'll just take up space afterwards seems more than a little silly.

I'm not really expecting it to look particularly great, with the issues aside it looks good enough via S-Video/RGB on the HDTV. All I want is that really - just without the headache-inducing waves or irritating flickers.
