BBC One and Two Freeview reception problems

Anyone else experiencing a sudden loss of quality in the reception on BBC 1 and 2 (also the HD channels) Freeview signal quality? Three and Four seem not to be effected. It's always been great on my TV (through a communal external aerial) but it's suddenly dropped off. All the other channels have more or less 100% signal quality and strength according to the TV but in the past couple of weeks BBC is suffering badly, down to about 20% signal quality and breaking up the picture often.

I retuned the TV this morning and it shot back up to 100% but I've had it switched off for a few hours and it's dropped back down again. I'm reluctant to retune again as it inexplicably takes half an hour on this TV!!!!!!

Anyone else having this problem or is it just my set up? Seems strange that it would be just me considering it's only the main BBC channels that are effected.

If it makes a difference the TV is a Sony 40EX703.

Crystal Palace does seem to have been having some issues lately, if that's your transmitter it might be that.

I hope not since it's 400 miles away!

It's irritating that it was fine after the retune but then lost those settings when I switched it off (standy not at the plug). Thankfully I found an option to do the tune in a couple of minutes not 30 ('normal' instead of 'full' ) so I retuned again and I'm just leaving it on until the F1 is finished.

Nothing to do with the death of analogue PAL TV in the UK?
I know they're in the process of turning off the analogue broadcasts and you might need to retune more than once...

I definitely get issues with my freeview in the summer - when it's very hot the picture starts to go tits up. It's fine in the cold weather.

Analog got switched off a couple of months ago here. Picture quality dropped immediately this happened. Why? Surely it should have improved if anything? Will switch to freesat downstairs once hd freesat recorders stop costing ?250.

If it goes into an artifact spasm like mine does it'll be the weather interfering with the signal.

Yeah, so good job to whichever genius thought it was analogue that needed turning off. Most digital signals can't hold up against a light drizzle never mind proper full on rain....

I've linked to this site on a previous question like this, I found it fairly helpful when I lived in Brighton with the crappest freeview signal ever. You can find out the status of your local transmitter and see if there are any issues, plus there are a few pages that might help get the channels working again (like returning with the ariel unplugged, then putting it back in and retuning again).

Freeview switchover happened here in April, and signal quality has improved considerably since then... so not sure why some of you would be getting worse results (unless you're using a booster device somewhere on the line which is overloading the tuner in your box/tv).

In theory I don't think the switch-over should cause a drop in signal quality.

As for your TV - a bad review here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R2LWO...R2LWO4YP5X2TDT BUT lot's of good ones also!

DO you know which transmitter you are receiving from? You can check your expected signal strength, and also how far from the transmitter you are, here: http://www.digitalchoices.co.uk/hd-c...r-results.html

Also, do you have another TV to check, to rule the tele out of the equation???

Yep.. BBC 1 and 2 are having muchos issues at the moment for us. Still, buying a house soon (renting at the moment) so a freesat hd receiver is on the cards..

Well, it's all been ok since I posted this ages ago. No idea what caused it. I don't think it was due to the analogue switch over as I think that had already happened when I posted. Transmitter is Fenham in Newcastle.

MikeGracia: I wouldn't recommend the TV to be honest, there are a few issues with uneven backlighting and it doesn't seem to handle blocks of black too well. It is good with HD sources though. The set itself looks great however and is very thin. I think Sony have revised these models now anyway.
