    Anyone repair hard-modded original Xbox?

    I have a modded original Xbox, which won't turn on or off (or very rarely) at the power button. I have to physically remove the power lead at the back. It's also prone to turning itself on if left idle for some time.

    Anyone still repair these/have an idea what the problem is? I'm not very tech minded so would prefer to pay someone else to fix it if it required soldering etc, but as I still use it for XBMC and emulators more than I use my 360 or PS3, so I'd really like to get it sorted

    I also have an old hard modded machine which used to make weird noises (sounded like there was something in there), but then the noises suddenly stopped after a good few months of non use.

    The laser's knackered though and I wonder what is really up with the machine. I wish I could get it up to peak performance again but I don't know if it's worth it when it's easy to soft mod another machine instead.

      This could be the power button. Easy enough to swap out.

      I probably have a spare if you want to try.

      You can swap any other xbox1 dvd drive into yours.

        I have spare drives you can have for postage cost.

        Both the dead Xbox in my garage are v1.0.

          Thanks for the reply Smouty, that'd be great... worth a go How much would you like for it? Throw me a pm

          Having read up a little, this could be the problem which would require more technical know how than I have, however;

            Thing is besides the drive, I wonder why it sometimes makes strange noises.

              I had a quick look last night and couldn't see it. Perhaps Speedolita would be able to help here too as they are easy to remove if you have the case open.
              The most likely thing to go wrong is that little square power or eject button. They are probably made in China for less than 1p.
              Do you know what version your xbox is? Is it an early one that could be affected?

              What sort of noise is it? There aren't that many moving parts apart from HDD, DVD and fans.

                Well when I bought it from someone it was fine for a day or two and then started making an extremely loud noise like something small and hard was trapped in it. I didn't want to open it up so I just left it for months. When I tried it again it wasn't making the noise anymore, which was odd.

                Then after a while, it would be quiet, but then make a loud noise which I can't explain, just louder than it should be normally.
