Laptop has gone critical mass - help!

So surfing the web tonight (no porn I asure you!) and my laptop has all of a sudden started giving me loads of Hard Drive Failure pop ups.

This was in conjunction with McAfee stopping a Trojan.

So Windows Vista Repair has come up saying '11 errors detected'
    • Drive C initialzing error
    • Bad sectors on hard drive or damaged file allocation table - critical
    • Read time of hard drive clusters less than 500 ms - critical
    • A problem detected while reading the boot operating systems
    • Hard drive does'nt respond to system commands - critical
    • RAM memory defragmentation is required. 20% of RAM memory is free
    • RAM memory temp is 83? C.
    • Boot sector of hard disk is damaged - critical
    • Files placement on hard drive is not optimized
    • 32% of HDD space is unreadable - critical
    • 1532 MB to be removed for computer performance optimization
All my photos/videos have disappeared (luckily backed up on external drive).

My personal settings and icons have disappeared.

    I tunes is still available.

Will try to fix errors as I type, using repair centre.

Based on the above, how bad is it?

    Update.

Using the Repair Centre, it has 'Resolved' 6 of the issue, but 'Failed' on 5. Those 5 being ...

    1. Read time of hard drive clusters less than 500 ms
    2. 32% of HDD is unreadable
    3. Bad sectors on hard drive or damaged file allocation table
    4. Hard drive does'nt respond to system commands
    5. Boot sector of the hard drive is damaged

All those 5 are classed as 'Critical Error'.

The fan on the laptop is constantly running and now I'm getting 'Windows - Delayed Write Filed' pop ups.

      Stop running Windows Vista repair.

That itself is spyware/virus and the messages that is is giving you are pure LIES.

You need to remove the cause of this. Mcaffee obviously didn't get to it in time.

Yeah, it's a new fake spyware; after trying to trick people into having virus and spyware removed by paying for it, now it's hard drive failures. Friend of mine had this hit her machine last month. The files aren't lost, they've just been renamed somewhere instead. In the end she found and backed up what she could (about 95% of her files), nuked the hard drive and started over again. Funny this... no issues since with it.

Cheeky beggars! I hadn't heard of this particular one so glad I read this thread.

Well that was a bit traumatic!

Firstly, thanks to Boris who gave me a quick reply and pointed me in the right direction

So I am back on my laptop after StopZilla (this is what Boris linked me to) found 195 cookies and 6 viruses/spyware progammes inside!

No idea how they all got inside as I have McAfee full security suite installed and up-to-date and its set up to do a full scan every couple of weeks. I don't go on any dodgy sites (apart from the one last night, which was an action figure site, where I believe I got hit). A part from a Trojan which it (McAfee) said it stopped it did'nt alert me to anything else.

After initially doing Windows Vista Repair it fixed some of the problems but for the ones that were left it came up with a prompt to buy some service/programme to be able to remove/rectify them. I was a bit reluctant to do that, hence my post on here.

TBH, I was'nt that arsed if my computer was bolloxed, all I cared about were my family photo's/videos and itunes. A new laptop/tablet will cost 'X' amount of money, but the photo's/videos are priceless.

They (the photo's/videos) are back, so I've backed them up (again) onto an external drive and I'm back surfing, so all is good.

Lesson no. 1 - always have any valued digital media on your hard drive backed up securely!

My friend had McAfee on her laptop as well and said her issues began after it reported trying to stop a trojan. Evidently, it did not. When it got rebuilt, it got replaced with Comodo instead, as it has blocked fake infection spyware on my parents machine more than once.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend McAfee tbh, there's better alternatives such as Avast.
