    i3 v i5 Core processors

    Hey guys,

Looking to replace the laptop soon & I've been looking at Dell Inspirons & XPS as replacments but the question is should I pay the extra for an i5 CPU over the i3??

I'll mostly be using it for Web browsing & a little gaming if I plump for the XPS with the 1 or 2GB Nvidia 525

So should I spunk the extra on the i5 or is the i3 still upto standard??

    ta muchly

i3 are still superb. Shame you're buying a laptop though.

I assume you're looking at the 15R? That's a pretty good value laptop, nice to see Dell putting in reasonable graphics chips in their lower mid range models. Looks to be 30-40fps in most modern games at medium settings.

A core i3 should be fine for browsing and gaming with that GPU, can't see it bottlenecking it.

That graphics card at 2gb is a waste of money though. It'll give no performance increase whatsoever.

what about those new AMD A8-3850 will they be coming to laptops ? while the processors speeds are not as fast as the intel they are supposed to have decent in built graphics for games

The A8 is an interesting product. Though it's not as powerful as an i3 in most cases, it's the cost that makes it interesting. Having a CPU and a GPU on the same chip is also great, it saves space and complicated heat sink designs. I see it as a winner in the low-end desktop and notebook market, probably a good choice for small HTPCs.

Yeah either the R or the XPS both are within budget with the i3 & pushing the upper limit with the i5
                Glad they seem good
Thanks for the heads up with the 2gb card will stick to the 1 then

That AMD sounds interesting but my laptop is just about dead so will need replacing soon & not sure I can wait till they get them in medium spec laptops

Thanks for the input so far guys

saw some benchmarks and unlike most onboard graphics cards it will run direct x 11 games ( and i think even crysis was playable)
