    PS2 chipping outlawed from 30/10?

I have heard some rumblings on usenet that PS2 chipping will be classified as a prosecutable offense from the end of this month meaning that many current chippers are stopping their service - anyone know if there's any truth in this or is it a sales ploy?

There is no case in law that makes this process illegal - and as far as I'm aware, this hasn't changed.

It wouldn't stop people doing it anyway. All they have to do is sell multi region consoles for serious gamers, but they doesn't give us the option.

I mean if Sony sell a silver multi region PS2 for extra 25 quids, I would have gone for it, ditto for XBOX. I like option to play imports games as I hated PAL games.

Having read the news today, I believe this might be to do with this:

BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

I visited an official Sony centre recently and noticed that if you bought a DVD player and paid a tenner extra, you could have it multi-region enabled, which makes their stance as to the PS2 all the more annoying.

How can it be illegal to mod something you've PAID for?

                Damn copyright laws.

The Sony Centres are franchises and not actually owned by Sony. I'm sure that if Sony ever find out that this service is being offered they'll put an immediate stop to it.
