Replacing XBox DVD Drive - is it easy?

Mate has got a chipped XB but his DVD drive is playing up.

    Is it easy to replace?

    How much?

Anyone do the deed on here? Will?

Dead easy Ono, just pull out the plugs from the old one and replace it with the new.

However if he replaces it with a standard PC DVD Rom he won't be able to boot original discs anymore and it's a bit more complicated - you have to leave your case open unless you replace it with a Samsungwhich gets really heavy duty.

        Cheers Pete.

        Shame that.

The guy has original XBox games so not being able to boot them is a pain in the arse.

          Mr Ono!

I've probably got a Philips unit from an Xbox a customer destroyed trying to mod >_< which I'm going to buy in for spares. Can fit that for you if you like?

          Regards,

          Will.

            Hiya Will mate.

I don't think the drive is far gone enough for my mate to swap it yet. He can still play games and plonk them onto the HDD - just that some films and discs with emulators on won't work. I suspect it may be his drive not liking some media but I won't be able to tell until I've had a look at it.

We'll see how how it goes first.
