    Ridiculous PC game installations

So I'm testing a PC game install today, and it's a ****ing nightmare trying to get the thing to install. 3 disks and just for fun they make you swap disks several times in a row every half-an-hour or so of a 4 hour install.

Insert disk 3...Insert disk 2, Wrong disk, insert disk 3, disk 1, Wrong disk

    Then there's randomnly missing files...

There's a great shortcut which involves copying the files on to the hard drive and installing from there but I can't do that today. Does it tell you this in the help file? does it hell

I know that most PC installs are okay but the bad offenders are reaching shocking new lows.

P4 260 megs ram. Not nice as it tends to lock up the system sometimes as well.

So what game took 4 hours to install on a P4? SWG is 2gig, that went on in a few minutes.

Simpsons Hit & Run. I've changed to mimimum install now, I am supposed to ascertain whether it installs sometime today, like .

Come on Super Stu, I think we can all appreciate the point JammyD is trying to make.

I think the fact that the copy of Simpsons Hit & Run you paid good money for doesn't work is your secondary concern.

Actually, I'm being paid to test it. I do worry for those who might buy it on PC though

edit and rethink - Surely if testing it, it's just a beta? I can't see how a full retail copy would have files missing, unless the CD has read errors.

Last umpteen games I installed went on flawlessly and took very little time (certainly less time than it takes to HDD install an xbox game). So no sorry, I can't.

Well there's a three of us testing the install and no language version is better than the other. About to go gold.

CD was hot and steaming first time I completed a full install

Jedi Knight 3 was a ****er. I actually had to crack it, to be able to play it. Wouldnt read my disks for some reason

Personally, i think it has something to do with the new disc protection on it

As well as that MGS2 is the worst game on the pc ever (to install and play)

Aye, to be fair, those copy protected discs are getting a bit daft. CM4 was the same, I heard. Case of devs/pubs owning themselves, there.

edit - not having a go btw, was just genuinly amazed as to why a game could take 4 hours to install.

Longest i ever had to wait for a game to install was few mins tops.
Never had any problems installing games on my pc, pretty effortless really.

mine was 2 hrs, for Emperor: Dune by Westwood

to be fair though, it was a copy

CMR3 was massive, although not as bad as FS2K4. Some games just don't warrent comming on 3 or 4 CD's (FS is an exception as its filled to the brim).
But CMR3? For what. It can't be the Bink files as they're no better quality then anything else.
You'd have thought a 120 Gig drive would sort you out for life, but thats proving not to be the case.
