New Wireless router with internal hd

Im currently using a first gen time capsule and an airport express to extend the range. The transfer rate is not that great and currently I cant even stream a non-hd mkv to my room without it chugging.

So, I think its time for an upgrade. Im mainly looking to improve my speed so that I can stream movies and move files faster (my desktop which is 3m from the capsule gets about 3mb/s write speed when moving a 4gb movie).

Anyway, I'd like the new router to be dual band, have internal space for a HD and be compatible with my airport express (though not too important)

Any ideas? or am i stuck with a newer time capsule?

Personally I would split the two. For storage I think you can't beat a QNAP NAS. The features are astounding for the price.
Something like a 2 bay 2x 1Tb unit will be approx. ?200. Speed is limited by your connection but on gigabit it can do 125Mb/s.
For a router it depends on what you are connecting it to e.g. xDSL or ethernet.
There are some decent dual WAN routers from Draytek and Billion that can do both.

      thanks for the reply smouty.

the reason i wanted a router and HD in one is cause I prefer having less items sitting around. believe it or not, am also trying to go green... oh and the less fans the better (current timecapsule is very loud).

as the router/hd wil not be located anywhere near my computers, I prefer wireless. I actually bought an aztec 1gb powerline. i can stream 720p to the tv in my room but 1080p still fails me.

btw, any idea whether those huge add on antennas actually work wonders?

You'd probably have more luck getting a 5hz compatible router and making sure that your attached devices support that aswell.

If you are going green, you'll need to switch supplier (and get you and me some free wine a the same time):

It's actually possible to create your own custom Atom based linux box as a media server and have it work out the same or cheaper than NAS I believe.

That two drive NAS device consumes about 25w and is Linux based ;-)
You are paying a bit for the integration and custom distro which runs from flash memory but there is an active community with custom packages for things e.g. MYSQL and Wordpress etc.

The antennas will increase range not speed unless your reception is poor.
Wireless N will give you the best range and speed.
