    Big Button MP3 Player?

    Hi.

My Dad has a condition that affects his peripheral nervous system called CIDP.

At the moment, his hands are shaking a lot.

He's not a big book reader so he's not interested in a Kindle, but I think he might enjoy listening to some audiobooks (and the odd Lynyrd Skynyrd album!).

MP3 manufacturers are all trying to outdo each other with how small they can make their players or have really fancy input methods. Sadly, when your hands shake, tiny buttons, touch screens and scroll wheels are all impossible to use.

Does anybody know of any MP3 players that have pretty big buttons?

He can handle a remote control, so the buttons don't need to be fruit machine sized, but tiny, bunched-up ones are a nightmare to use. Has anybody come across something like what I'm after? Seems like a real gap in the market for people with arthritis and other conditions like my Dad.

    Thanks.

I've seen mobiles with big buttons made specifically for older people, but not an MP3 player. What about the classic iPod? Just the larger size of the unit would help for controls, I'm guessing.

I think the scroll wheel would make it impossible due to jitter.

The sansa clip+ has decent navigation buttons - maybe a bit small but easily pressed. Not sure if holding down the power button for a second to turn it on and off would be an issue?

        How's about an Ipod touch?

You could possibly jailbreak it to allow some hacks for large icons and failing that, the voice control is very good.

You just hold the main button and then speak the name of the artist or the album or even the track you want to listen to.

How about the Cowron X9 or z2 player. Apparently there are custom UI's available.

Or maybe the Victor reader stream, however that is really designed for the visually impaired.

You are right this is a huge market gap and having suffered from Guillain-Barr? syndrome in the past know how frustrating this is.

Hopefully as our tech savvy generation ages this gap will become more realised.
