Aged Ferguson TV - NTSC compatible?

My mate is thinking about taking the plunge into the world of importing, starting with an NTSC Gamecube. But I'm not sure his TV is up to the job. He reckons it's a 24" Ferguson, about 5 years old.

What's the easiest way to test whether or not it's NTSC compatible?

I would have tried hooking up *my* US Cube, except he lives about 300 miles away.

    Any ideas?

Ferguson are a European make, like Thomson and Philips, so a lot of older sets will not be NTSC compatible. The only reason that Panasonic, Sony, JVC etc are, is becasue being Japanese most of the time the software is universal for PAL and NTSC to save costs. But I have been caught myself with a Sharp about 5 years ago which wasn't NTSC compatible.

Has he got a dreamcast or PS2 or access to either? Then see if games like Pro Evo 3 will work in 60hz.
If you get a picture but its black and white then a RGB scart should add the colour.

Use a PS2 to test it, and don't connect it with an RGB cord. A Dreamcast will send out PAL60 so test results wouldn't be valid if you were wanting to use pure NTSC stuff on the TV.

I have a 21" Ferguson television that is at least 7-8 years old. It runs my switched pal SNES at 60hz, and my US SNES at 60hz through RGB. If I get time tonight I will try a composite connection to see if that works.

Nadgers. I have no way to connect my US SNES to the television using a composite connection. Sorry mate cannot help you there.

If you can get hold of a PS1 there's an easy way to test it.

All Playstations boot into 60hz for thr first few seconds. If the screen rolls, it can't handle 60hz. Try it through RF.
