NTSC-JPN Sega Mega Drive I (1) Console without AC Adapter and Video Cable. Options?

Recently I got a Japanese Sega Mega Drive console (original version) and controller, but without the necessary cords. Although relatively cheap, perhaps I should have just paid for a complete package in order to prevent the possible headaches to follow:

So what's the easiest and/or the most economical way of getting the AC Adapter and AV cables to match my NTSC-JP Sega Mega Drive?

I don't have a Sega Saturn or Sega Dreamcast yet so I don't know what the ports look like, but are their AV cables compatible with the Sega Mega Drive console? Accordingly, are Sega Saturn and/or Dreamcast AC Adapters backwards compatible with SMDs?

If SS and/or DC AC/AV cords are backwards compatible with SMDs, then I'll simply wait until I buy an SS and DC.

Furthermore, at the moment I am actually using a 220-240v PAL (to be more specific, Australian) Sega Mega Drive AC Adapter with my Nintendo Super Famicom (100-120v).

What would happen if I plugged a 220-240v PAL SMD to a 100-120v NTSC-JPN SMD? Would it work the same way my Nintendo Super Famicom did or would it sabotage its own kind (i.e. blow up the console)?

If the options above are not possible, then I'll have to buy a local SMD AV cable and import a NTSC-JP AC Adapter separately.

A PAL Megadrive psu should be absolutely fine to use on a Japanese Megadrive. In fact any generic 9V PSU that will fit into the megadrive socket will work as the console only draws as much current as it needs. I use the same generic PSU for MD, SNES and PC engine.

Saturn and Dreamcast both have internal PSUs so they just use power cables rather external PSUs. The video cables are different for all Sega consoles too. I'd recommend getting a good RGB cable for the Megadrive, preferably one that utilizes stereo output. They cost about a tenner on Ebay.

Thanks for your input. However, I won't test my SMD console until I get the video cable so if anyone else has supporting or conflicting information, please post.

Oh well, at least the AV cables are not region specific.

Thanks also for reminding me about getting a stereo-capable AV cable.

Yes the Stereo RGB SCART cable for the mk.1 Megadrive looks like this. The cable for the Megadrive II is not backwards compatible.

like moonwhistle said - a UK PSU will be fine, or a modern PSU that allows you to select polarity/volts etc. I also use the same PSU for my MD, SFC and PCE.

The cable that oldgamingfart linked to should be spot on, I admit I've not ordered from them, but have chatted to him via email and have pointed a few people to the same site to buy cables and no-one came back saying they were pants.

I need a PSU for an Asian Megadrive and when I looked at old threads here and elsewhere 10v PSUs were suggested, can someone suggest a good PSU that Maplin or Argos sell that I could use, please?
