PS3 and X360: optical and HDMI audio at the same time

As the title suggests, can the PS3 (fat model without software BC) and the X360 (Jasper) output audio through both HDMI and optical at the same time?
I'm considering buying a video capture card (the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle) and to avoid constant cable swapping I was browsing through HDMI splitters, but my old AC3 decoder only accepts optical (or coaxial) for digital audio, and HDMI-to-optical splitters cost way too much (and they require power). Or does anyone knows of a HDMI splitter (one in, two outs) with embedded optical audio splitting?

[edit] Found a Gefen unit with 2 outs and one HDMI+toslink out at 290USD. Not bad considered a 1:2 splitter + HDMI-toslink would cost more than that and would require two power sockets. Any other suggestions? Atlona doesn't produce HDMI+toslink unit apparently. The other problem is that is 10 inches wide...surely there must be something smaller.

Pretty sure you can, the PS3 has a lot of audio options which are totally independent of the video.

You can with the 360 too, I don't think it disables HDMI sound though oddly - I could be wrong.
