    US Xbox on Live

I'm asking this one behalf of another person. I'll quote what he said, hopefully people can help.

Ive got a chipped American NTSC XBOX - I know you can put a switch into it to turn of the modchip for xbox live, but when you turn off the switch, would it revert back to NTSC mode? (hence not being able to play PAL discs, hence no Xbox live)

Ive been told that you cant go on xbox live without a PAL xbox anyway (unconfirmed though) - so if I changed the video mode to PAL before switching off the modchip, would it stay in PAL, or revert back to factory setting of NTSC?

Need help, coz it means I would need a new box otherwise
    Thanks in advance

You don't need Pal disc for live.

I got clean US XBOX and use it for live and I just bought US XBOX Live kit.

As long as switch is off so its a plain US Xbox, and you only play US Live games on it, he should be fine.

i think your friend is getting confoosed betwen NTSC/PAL video outputs and NTSC/PAL region coding.

I have an US xbox, with the chip on i can switch the video output to PAL and NTSC - the setting then stays fixed if the chip is on or off - and stays fixed until you change it again. - However this is just changes the video output to the TV and not the region coding of the xbox itself!!!!

If your m8 turns his modchip on changes the video output to Pal then turns chip off - the xbox will still be a US-NTSC xbox and will not play PAL discs at all. - it will just be outputting a Pal signal to the telly.

Xbox live discs were all at first region free - tho AFAIK now they seem to be region coded - if he's gonna buy a XBL-kit then as things stand it will need to be a US XBL-kit.

If XBL is already installed on the xbox then he can only use US-NTSC games for live play.

Lastly - it is possible to actually change the region of the xbox (if you have a chipped machine) - i remember reading it on here a while ago - i believe it involves changing some lines of code, (or summit like that), and i remember at the time someone saying it was a pain to have to do - but it is possible - weather this "workaround" is a permanent until changed again - (like the video output is, i don't know).
Do a search on here see if you can find the info - infact i'll look myself - interesting to see what needs to be done.

          Hi there,

Its not hard to do, I asked for some help on here a couple of days ago and its actually very simple.

Basically you need the app "configmagic final" installed on your xbox when the chip is on. All you need is in there. You can actually change your US Xbox into a PAL one by changing these settings, so it will only play PAL discs when the chip is off until you change it back again.

This should sort you out with live, I changed my JPN one into a PAL one for live, getting BB installed in a few weeks so dont know if it works 100%, but I really see no reason why not, as it is essentially a modded PAL xbox now.

Thanks for all the help guys. Is there anyone that has changed the region of their machine and used it on Live?

Theres a guy over at the xbox scene forums that says he has done it and it works flawlessly. Hope its true, otherwise I'll have to pick up a PAL xbox for when I get live
