    Have i done alright here

Well i was saving up to build myself a new computer at xmas but looking at all the prices i knew i'd end up pushing over the grand mark and the missus wouldnt be impressed.

So i'd been trawling around ebay and saw this. I haven't been ripped have i?

It seemed ok and i know its sort of last gen before the i-series, but i arent wanting to run everything at hi-res and i havent really played pc games since quake 4 made this thing chug.

It's not a bad price for what the seller is offering, especially when the monitor alone should be around 100 GBP.

The set up in this test is nigh on identical to give you an idea of performance.

It's not that bad considering you're getting a decent monitor too.

It's a reasonable price for what you get, a former top of the range PC.

If I had that though I'd sell the two 8800's and replace it with a modern DX11 card (those cards in SLI should play any modern game at a good frame rate but you'll miss out on DX11 features).

That's a solid case, too. We have those in our university labs and they're built like tanks.

What kind of cards would you lot recommend. But then again I've got about 7 years of pc games to play and I'll end up playing shogo again lol

I'd recommend going back to quake 4, its a cool game and with the update and graphics whacked up to max it looks a dream.

HD 5770 is the minimum recommended at the minute id say for modern games, tho on the very latest will probably start to choke @ 1920x1200.

Looking on Ebay, if you sold those cards individually you'd probably get ?90-?100 in total and for another ?35 you'd be able to get: http://www.dabs.com/products/sapphir...-mdp-7G0M.html

That said, it's worth trying out modern games on it and seeing how they perform and if you're happy with it, either stick with them or wait 4-6months for the next generation of cards.
