Can't play PS1 games via component on LCD HDTV???

Only just noticed this issue as have not really used my current telly to play PS1 games on.

I'm using a phat PS2 hooked up via component to a Samsung LE32C530 HDTV. Basically, when I'm loading up PS1 games, I get the PS title logo, and I might get the game's title screen (or may not) but upon starting the game, the screen goes black (totally blank) but I can actually HEAR that the game is working, yet a picture is not being output.

Tried Ridge Racer IV, I get the main title screen and options menu, but the FMV gets the black screen, as does starting the game. Metal Gear Solid, don't get anything, but can hear that it's up and running.

Any way to rectify this or am I gonna have to go the RGB route if I want to play my PS1 games??? Bit of a pain in the arse, this, my cable set-up is pretty organised now, I was *expecting* I could play everything with my current set-up.

I've only tried it once, with a JPN Einhander on a modded EU PS2, component leads. The game would run fine but would be "compressed" to the upper part of the screen, with the lower part of the screen unused or filled with noise. At the time I dismissed it to the modchip, if I'm able to dig out a PAL PS1 game I'll test it this evening.

This could be that the game you're playing is less than 720x480, which your TV may not support. See if you can find one that definitely runs in 480i. I know there are similar issues with some PS2 games, such as Ico, which runs at 270i or something.

Its been covered before but as silly as it sounds its your TV thats causing the issue. The TV needs to be able to accept a 240p resolution over component which it obviously can't.

Yeah, it's cos of the above.

          Use RGB instead.

Oh, bugger. RGB it is then.
