Just got a load of email delivery failure messages for emails not sent by me...

Does this just mean that my email address has been hacked or is there a virus on my PC? And what should I do about it?

Your email could be hacked or it could be some botnet's set your email address as a return address.

Do a full virus scan then run hijackthis and post the log here or at a dedicated hijackthis board.

It seems to have emailed addresses from my address book, so I assume my email address must be hacked rather than the botnet thing... What's hijackthis?

If they're coming from your address book, you're probably infected.

Hijackthis is basically a program that lists any programs and add ons that are run from the most common malware locations, it's very handy for identifying and removing stuff that anti-virus software misses.

It is a hotmail account if that makes any difference, I'm still hoping it's just my email account I have to worry about...

I have that and just about everyone on my hotmail contacts too. It's a just a bot using you as a return address.

Well, it is probably using your address book to send spam to your friends too. Not sure how that works.

Well, I changed my password, hopefully that'll keep them out!

Yeah, it's happened to my mother and myself in the last couple of months. We both changed our Hotmail passwords and anything forum wise that used the same email/password combo, and nothing has come of it since, touch wood...

How long it would take a computer to crack your password?

If it was secure, it isn't after you put it into that site

Put in bigboobies2345 and it said 76 thousand years to crack!
