Hooking up a VCR to PC?

    Is this even possible?

I want to record whatever's playing on my monitor and then watch it through my T.V but haven't a clue as to how to go about it. Is it possible to record a PC game running at 1024x768 or one of my progressive scan GC games without taking the TV out route?.

Do I need to buy any special cables?

Apologies if this sounds like a silly question, but I'm not tech savvy at all.

    Thanks.

A resolution that high is impractical and a TV out or some kinda of VGA -> <signal you want> converter. Does that count as special cables?

Impossible to tape something at 1024*768 I think. You could get a DVD recorder that you can tape TV with, called DVD RAM I think. If you have a DVI output you could use a convertor and component inputs into the back of the DVD recorder. That might give you the resolution you require but I am not sure.

VHS only records at about 200 horizontal lines so you're not going to get close. You can capture and record onto DV which would give you 500 lines, about as good as it's going to get. I would imagine it's possible to produce HDTV (up to 1080 lines) images and then burn to DVD but I don't know what software supports that.
