Shenmue 2 via BC on 360 - notable glitches???

Suddenly got a hankering to play Shen 2 since clocking the DC version about a decade ago (don't have that version anymore).

Got the 360 hooked up via HDMI and the Xbox1 hooked up via RGB. Game looks really good on the 360, crisp and solid and clean like it did on the DC, it's exactly the way I'd like to play this. Main prob is that this isn't the original hardware and - through experience - I *know* that games which initially seem to run fine via backwards compatibility can often reveal major flaws when playing them over a length of time.

On the original XBrick, the RGB looks actually pretty damn good, surprisingly so, but is still kind of a bit blobby, a bit 'hollower' than the HDMI display when playing this on the 360. BUT, this is the original hardware I'd be playing it on, so there should be theoretically no problems with emulation-related glitches.

I'm not bothered about having the voiceovers of the original PAL DC version (I like the 'plastic' US voices!) and I'm not bothered about the various texture differences etc. between the two versions.

All I really want to know is:

*Any game-breaking glitches when playing deep into this?

    *Any major save issues??

*Any humongous graphical glitches??? Despicably low frame rates rendering the game nigh-on unplayable at points???

*Any moments where the game freezes?

*Do the arcade games - Hang On, OutRun and the like - run perfectly or are they a wee bit f*cked (this is a bit of a decider, btw)?

*Any truly convincing reasons to play this on the Xbox1 over the 360?

As always, any info will be gratefully appreciated.

Changing the game's 'Filter' to a different color does not work and causes a brief pause. Sound issues with advanced scart leads and VGA cable. Arcade games (i.e.: Outrun, Space Harrier) have noticeable glitches in the textures and the classic games do not work in PAL60 mode. Sometimes, geometry will not get rendered leading to creepy artifacts, such as headless people. Slowdown increases in certain areas, most notably the Dimsum Qr.

^Cheers Pat, bit of a "bah!" up in this piece.

Think I'll experiment with it on the 360 and get far enough in the game to find the first arcade. Trouble is, don't know how long that takes, seem to think it might be several hours????

If I remember right, it takes a lot longer to get to the arcades in part 2 than it did in the original game. I seem to remember at least one of the games being in one of those massive bulidings you explore later on in the sequel, but it's been a long time.

There's the Pine Game Arcade in Wan Chai, which is pretty near the beginning of the game, although there's probably quite a few cut-scenes before that point.

^Thanks for the info, I'll have a look later. Been sidetracked by Serious Sam on XBLA for 400pts and Dexter season 4!

If I remember rightly (and my memory is hazy on this) there's a bit quite late in the game where you're in a semi-derelict tower block with broken walls, and peeping through, you can see an arcade cab you haven't had the opportunity to play up until this point (think it might be Hang On????) Somehow, you have to work your way into that room if you want to play it, though this is not demanded of you by the plotline (it's more of a nerdy, completist sidequest).....?????????????????????????????

Like I said, memory of that game is pretty hazy. 2001/2 were my 'Drugs Years', I was off my tits for the entirety of them.

yep because then you can play the Sega goodness that is Jet Set Radio Future as well. That really sucks on emulation on the 360. Not to mention Burnout 3 which is still better than any of the new Burnouts on 360

I wouldnt really recommend playing any games on backwards-emulation unless you don't have an Xbox1 anymore, there's always some niggle that spoils it

How much does an Xbrick1 VGA lead cost, or would it be better to get a component to VGA converter, as I have the component leads? I still haven't played Jet Set Radio Future properly, had it for years and the first game made me cry tears of joy (slight exaggeration).

The XBox 1 VGA cables aren't true VGA, they're just cables with a Component->VGA transcoder built in.

Ummm...I don't know about this. Some original games look truly special when played back on 360, way better (can't comment on component/VGA, btw, as I don't have that cable). I'm playing through Manhunt on the 360 now, and bar the Brian Cox voiceover (that can now only be heard thru the headset,) it looks pin-sharp, it looks *really* nice for such an oldish game, miles better than thru RGB, and seems to have no other issues. Same goes for the Splinter Cell games, same for The Suffering etc.

I'd love to see a list of BC Xbox games that only listed titles that ran more or less perfectly, know there's a well-known 'compatibility' list but it includes games that barely run well at all, I'd rather have one that sorts the wheat from the chaff...???
