Just picked up i7, Asus m/board and Ram - need help with the next few bits on budget!

Hi all, just picked up a few bits for my new PC build. As I've said on other threads I'm primarily looking for high-end emulation, so gone for max CPU speed - and this CPU WILL be overclocked so need a decent cooler. However also looking to play some new-ish games too!

    So far I've got:
    CPU: i7 2600k (which I'll overclock)
    RAM: 8gb RAM Corsair 1600mhz
    M/BOARD: Asus P8P67 PRO

I've got about ?300 left - may be able to stretch this further, but obviously need a case, cooler and graphics card. May already have a HDD so going to ignore that for now! I was thinking of 560 GTi for the GPU - or if someone could recommend me a slightly cheap similar performing card that'd be great. I have no clue about a good cooler so need help there! And also need some help with a case - I was thinking of an Fractal R3, but again wouldn't mind a cheaper option, preferably one that is pretty quiet. If I could build a quiet-ish system that'd be great too. Also am I missing anything?
    All help appreciated!

    Cheers.

    You need a PSU too.

    Something like this I imagine:

Looks good mate - might need a bit more of a kick in the graphics department though

I have no idea about current tech really - graphics wise, just don't skimp on the PSU.

not really a huge difference in this gen graphics cards to be honest even a expensive 580 card is only about 10fps a second faster then a 560 ti and the 560 ti is about 10fps faster then a 6850

            Nice setup so far.

I have the Fractal R3 case.

            The good:

Understated (if you like things understated)
            Room for 7 fans
            Excellent soundproofing
            Tons of room
Perfect sized cutout for replacement of CPU cooling system without having the remove m/board
            Super sturdy

            The bad:
Not good if you want flashy LEDs and the like. There's no way to display them.
Side panels are held on (securely) with 2 x thumbscrews on each side. Fitting and taking off could be easier.
Not good if you want a 3 1/2or 5 1/4" panel with knobs that stick out e.g. a fan controller, because you can't close the front door with that fitted
I've got the white one and in all the pictures it appears to be all metal but the front is actually plastic and make it look a bit like a mini-fridge!

Overall I'm pleased and can't imagine ever having to buy another case.

Possibly go for an nVidia card. I only say this because Xenoblade won't emulate in Dolphin on my machine and I've got an AMD card. Probably me just not setting something up right though. I got a 620watt Corsair PSU for my setup (with a 6870 card). That should let em run a second card too. I think nVidias need more power though so be careful. Maybe go for a 700watt.

oh, I went for corsair H60 cooling. Very impressed at the low noise (once it settles down and you have the radiator installed the right way up!) and cooling ability at an overclock of 4.4GHz (maxes at about 62 - 64c playing Arma II).

              Thanks mate,

Have got this lot so far:
              P8P67 PRO
              i7 2600k
              8GB 1600hz RAM
?270 for the bundle (bit of a bargain I thought )

              Windows 7 Pro Retail
              ?40

              Thinking of picking up:
Graphics: N560GTX-TI Twin Frozr II/OC - 1GB MSI GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II OC
Can get for ?150 - if not this will be something similar.

              CASE: Fractal R3 Case
?69 - love the sleek design, don't want it to look like a Christmas tree!

              PSU: Be Quiet Straight Power E8 680W Modular PSU - 7x SATA 4x PCI-E
?85 - bit pricey, but may go for it, due to noise and got some good reviews.

Cooling: Gelid Tranquillo Ultra Low Noise CPU Cooler ?25
              OR
              H60 Liquid Cooler ?50
              OR
Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 Pro CPU Cooler ?25
Unsure yet - but may opt for the liquid to keep it ultra-cool!

              1TB Samsung F3 - ?45

Ocz SSD 60GB - ?70 - wasn't going to bother with this, but think it
may be worth it in the long run, or wait a couple of months and see if they drop a bit more.

My budget was originally ?500-600, but have gone closer to ?700 with this, but not a bad build methinks
May trim the corners somewhere on this though.

I'm planning to run this largely through my LCD TV - would this be a recommended thing to do? I know I'd be missing some of the higher resolutions, but was planning to leave a monitor until later, plus I can semi-professionally calibrate my TV with the tools etc.

I've got the white one and in all the pictures it appears to be all metal but the front is actually plastic and make it look a bit like a mini-fridge!
Thanks for letting me know, may go for the steel looking one, or just the standard black.

I would have to guess that black is your best bet. I wish I'd gone with a black one now. Steel still has a chance to look cheap if they don't do it right I think. Regarding the cooler. I don't *think* the H60 necessarily keeps the CPU much cooler than a fan based one. The difference though is that it seems to remain pretty quiet even at full pelt, plus the heat is directed out of the case immediately rather than being pumped into the case and relying on case fans to get rid of it. Some people hook up 2 case fans to the radiator of the H60 cooler in a push/pull config and that would keep the heat down a few more degrees I suspect.

                Anyway, keep us informed!
