Wireless keyboard and mouse that's good for day-to-day use and gaming, cheap-ish?

    As title really.
To continue my barrage of pc building questions I now need a decent keyboard and mouse.
In all honesty I was just going to bung the cheapest bundle on my new build, but considering I'm probably just going to focus on PC gaming primarily, a fairly decent set of keys and a couple of good click-a-buttons wouldn't go amiss

I've looked at the Razer mouses (meeses!?) and they are a tad pricey for my budget despite glowing reviews!

In all reality I need a wireless setup and would like, ideally, to get keyboard and mouse for ?50. Although it would need to be pretty decent for gaming and the keyboard will be getting a lot of use, both typing (as I am a writer!) and for graphics work. So...any recommendations?

    Thanks, as ever

Do wireless keyboards and mice (mouses?) run on batteries? I always feared the batteries conking out and so stuck to wired ones.

Some do, some don't - there is a logitech keyboard that uses solar...anyway, back on topic...

I've used a Logitech one for a few years and it is faultless but I wasn't a heavy gamer. It worked fine in HL2 though.
It has a dock for the mouse which is still on the original set of rechargeables and the keyboard batteries last for years.

I think it was an LX700.

May I suggest not going the wireless route for gaming. Wireless mice tend to go into insta-standby, you usually find a slight delay in movement if you'v left it a few seconds. I have a Logitech mx sometihng, 251 maybe, which I'm fond of. Not at home to check.

The last two times I've bought a keyboard I went wireless, and both times I've thought to myself "what a complete and utter nonsense decision". Having a wireless mouse makes a lot of sense, but having a wireless keyboard makes no appreciable difference and uses up loads of batteries. Furthermore, with a wired keyboard you can often plug in extra USB ports.

Problem is it's the distance I need to sit from the monitor - a 42" LCD, so would need to be wireless. On average how long is a mouse lead?

Get a keyboard with a USB port on it?

I have the Logitech Wireless Desktop Mk250 and i've not noticed any lag etc whilst playing FPS's. I think it's only ?25-30 for the set as well
