Problem with the picture on my modded MD1

    Hi all,

Anyone got any ideas as to why this is happening to my switchless MD1?

It's running through my slg/scaler/sync strike setup and I've tried running the scaler in all resolutions, played about with the H and V ranges and removed the scart switch box from the equation.

Even before I had the scaler setup, whenever I ran the MD in 60Hz mode, using Sonic 3 as an example, I still had the corrupted graphics at the bottom and a lot of the time any game in 60hz mode kept on forcing my tv to enter wide screen mode despite me changing to 4:3 mode. It seemed to be more stable at 50Hz mode but I'm not planning on keeping this if I can't run it in 60Hz.

Same thing happens to various degrees when I run the MS convertor through the MD. All MS games meant to run in a particular Hz ?

Any ideas? A mod gone wrong? I bought it from someon in AV forums and I've always seemed to have an issue with it.

But all my other retro consoles including the switchless modded SFC always display fine.

    Cheers all!

The MS converter does tinker around with the video output, as I used to get an image out of my MD okay, until I plugged in the MS converter and then couldn't get an image. But on a CRT it was fine.

My MD was rubbish on my LCD, would just about sync in 50hz, but not at all in 60hz mode etc.

I even built my own Sync Cleaner which using the LM1551 chip, exactly like the Sync Strike does, but that didn't fix it.

Turns out mine was down to a problem with the Sync signal coming out of the MD, and ended up having to modify my console and it's RGB cable further to get a stable image on both my CRT and LCD. This was before I had a scaler though, so can't comment on that side of it. I also had to do this on a forum members MD also, as his (and my) LCD was going mad with the MD, as soon as it was fed a clean Sync signal though, it worked fine.

So even with running the composite video through a chip to convert it to composite sync, i couldn't get a proper image, I had to force the MD to output a composite sync signal, it should have been, but was wired wrongly.

Not really much help to you, except to say that it's probably not the switchless mod doing it, it's more than likely to be the dodgy video output of the MD anyway!

Thanks for the info Pete, I'll try the MD over the weekend on my other LCD tv and see if it stabilises. I've still got my CRT but it's in storage. Sounds like I should test my Neo on this setup too. Just surprised as everything else I've thrown at this works absolutely fine.
