    Ubuntu 11.10 upgrade...and subsequent downgrade to 10.04

So this computer i got from my ex father in law in March 2010 as his work was tossing it out. It has 512 MB of RAM and an 80GB HDD with XP on it. He stuck in a 1TB HDD and I added another 2GB of RAM, and installed Ubuntu 10.04 which worked like a dream.

Then I upgraded to 10.10 and it was ok.
11.04 and somehow my Nvidia drivers were borked, meaning I had to boot into recovery mode to get anywhere and I couldn't get my monitor resolution to work. Compiz also seemed to disappear. Grr.
11.10 and I couldn't even boot into recovery mode.

    **** it, back to 10.04

And so 18 months and I've come full circle back to where I was, and I'm pretty happy with that to be honest. The "negative" feature of compiz is worth it alone.

    So you like Compiz? Mad.

But yeah, I've read people are hating the new releases. Best to stick with the LTS versions.

Well, 11.10 seems to be getting more favourable reviews than 11.04. Personally I'm happy with GNOME 2 and Compiz on Debian.
