In that case, I'd just buy a PS2 slim along with a new PS3 slim - they take up hardly any room and you can guarantee that a game will work on it problem free, unlike the PS3's hit and miss software emulation.

It's a PSN+ only feature - lets you upload game saves to centralised online storage.

My ntsc-j BC PS3 is running the fan harder and harder at the moment, so I'm wondering what I could do to avoid potential meltdown.

Is it worth taking apart and cleaning up in the innards to improve airflow? Should I worry about heat sinks and thermal paste? Are they any good guides to doing this?

        Thanks

Cheers - I think I've found that PDF. I think I might pre-emptively clean my PS3 up then

i sent it to be repaired , got it back it worked for 2 hours and broke again, and the repair cost me ?55 !

to make matters worse they said i must pay postage to return it to them even tho they did a shoddy repair on it,
i paid with paypal where do i stand on this?

looking on avforums, they have a pretty bad reputation - I guess you could take it up with paypal?

my ps3 is definitely becoming unhappy, I was looking at tfixrepairs in tooting before it ylods itself. They seem to have all the kit needed to re-flow or re-ball the bgas if needed.

Should of just sold it for as spares and bought a slim. Probably the least fussy way, and cheapest too!

                      I dont i know if i should or not, but game are offering a slim silver 320g ps3 with mw3 for ?149.99 when you trade ina 60 or 80 g ps3 .

if i could get it working long enough for them to turn it on in store, would i be in the **** when they find it broken weeks later ?

They won't take it in your warranty sticker will not be on the system but you might be lucky but they are really strict about it (where I live they are anyway)

I would chance a repair, but accept you might only get a couple more months out of it.

Whelp, a cleanup, replacement heatsink and new thermal paste has made a marginal improvement for my h/w bc 60GB. It runs more stabily now.

It is definitely running hotter than it used to though, so I'm going to have to accept the fact that one way or another it is on it's way out. The PSU seems to run very hot - I don't know if it is this, the fan, or the motherboard/gpu degrading over time.

I'm going to bite the bullet and get a slim before it pops. Has anyone tried the system transfer process? The instructions make it sound flaky:

Sony Computer Entertainment PS3™ Official Online Instruction Manual. Explains how to use the PS3™ system software.

I don't really know what the limitations are on deactivating/activating consoles - seems odd to do this on the source machine first.

It's very easy if you have 2 consoles (I did it earlier this year when my slim br drive failed) both need to be on the same firmware then use an Ethernet cable and transfer over it copies the lot blanks the sender system then just go in to the original system and deactivate it and reset to factory go in to the new one put your psn passwords in and activate
