A couple of 'unknown devices' in Windows-how to identify?

    Hi again ladies and gents,
Just built a new PC and went pretty smoothly. However got a couple of issues regarding device manager.
Device manager didn't initially recognise some usb bits and the ethernet controller but installed them using the disc that came with the asus motherboard. Unfortunately though there are still a couple of unknown items and it can't find the drivers for one of the PCI controllers, although it finds the graphics card perfectly. I'm just wondering if there's anyway of finding out the unknown devices and also exactly what to install from the m/board disc, as I don't want to reinstall things that are already working and having conflicts-cheers

if you scout around the device manager you can find the device hardware ID. You can usually find a website that lists the manufactuer and model ID number which is part of that ID.

Ta mate, Ive had a nose and will sort it out tomorrow, shouldn't be a prob, as long as I don't have to do something complex like turn the power to 'on'

there are quite a few unknown device finders out there, but I suspect there's botherware(maybe even malware) in a few of them.

        This looks good: http://www.halfdone.com/Development/UnknownDevices/

If you are still stuck, PM me and I'll dig out a program I used the other day for an ageing Compaq laptop rebuild
