NTSC Intv / Colecovision on a UK TV

I have acquired NTSC versions of the Intellivision and Colecovision consoles

I am wondering if it is possible to get them to display on a UK TV. They both only have RF output.

I have tried connecting them to the antenna input of my (modern) TV. With alot of tuning I got a fuzzy black and white picture from the colecovision with no sound. For the Intellivision it was grey and white lines.

My tv is ok with modern ntsc consoles that connect via s-video/composite.....

Is it possible to run the signal through a video recorder that can play ntsc tapes?
Does anybody know of an adaptor to convert an ntsc rf signal to s-video or composite?
Is it possible to modify the consoles to display at a higher frequency?

It's much easier to convert the consoles to NTSC composite or s-video (that's the best video signal you will get from them...).

    You can find instructions here...

They do require a few circuit boards to be built due to the video levels from the boards and the fact the modulator does most of the work and is hard to get at... >_<

If you want them modded, then PM me and I might be able to point you in the right direction.

when looking into this before for the colecovision, if I rember the video encoder actually puts out component, so you may be able to get a superb picture out of it.

      good luck

So it does, although it gives out Luminence and B-Y, R-Y colour difference signals at 1V P-P as Analogue Component video needs the B-Y, R-Y at 0.7V P-P it would require a circuit to buffer the signals. Although it would be weird seeing a colecovision running on a Plasma in component video.

Now if only my mother had not thrown out my Coleco vision with about 50 carts and all the add ons like Segas' Turbo and steering wheel, when I was away at uni all those years ago I could have had a crack at that this week.

          Off to ebay he trots
