Sega Game Gear: Possible Power Problems?

With all 6 batteries inserted correctly, when I switch the power on, the power light turns red for about a secondand what appears to be the backlight also turns on at the same time, for about a second. Then both shut off. Nothing appears on the screen during this time. This happens whether there is a cartridge inserted or not.

I am unable to troubleshoot with a power adapter because I don't have one.

Anyone know what's going on here?

According to some sources on the Internet, it's a problem with the capacitors on the board, which requires some knowledge of electronics and soldering to fix. Oh well.

I wouldn't say you need knowledge of electronics, just to know which caps you need to replace. Desoldering a cap isn't difficult after all.
