    Dead 360- advice, please?

My Elite died last week, after I had the cheek to use it for a few hours for the first time in years. I had been playing it a bit recently and even watched a couple of dvds, which maybe a factor as all my games were installed so I rarely used the dvd drive.

I had purchased an extended warranty so they fixed the machine when it got an e74 error or something last year. They mentioned the disc drive in the repair letter, too.Last week, out of the blue my wired pad died. After a reboot, the console always froze on the start-up sequence.

I saw some sites suggesting reballing, etc, but I dunno about all that. Met someone who said he could do that but it would be his first try and just practice...I feel disappointed since I've spent loads on the games, I have considered ditching the format before but it has some exclusive titles especially Live Arcade ones. Anyone know whether my only option is to bin it? Sorry about the formatting of this post.

If it's still under extended warranty then send it back to Microsoft with a strongly worded letter explaining that their fix proved ineffective. Failing that, ebay it as scrap (you might get lucky and end up with someone unable to read auction information and pay some big money for it) and buy yourself a slim with the proceeds

Thanks for replying, looks like I'm out of luck. Have to say, it's the worst built console I have ever owned.

Shinobi, I started this thread back in 2009.

I actually opened up my launch 360 and did the X-Clamp fix.

I got another 6 months out of it and was well worth doing.

Thanks for that QC, I can't check that thread right now, hope it can fix freezing issues. Googling the problem mainly mentioned reflowing or reballing.

Best to sell it on in parts form and buy a slim.

speed, are the parts worth anything at all? I thought the 120gig hard drive was only worth around a tenner second hand? I was considering keeping the hard drive after seeing the recent thread that it can work on the slim. I'd like a bigger drive, though, really.

Unless you trade it in at GAME/Gamestation I think you would get more like ?40 for a 120G drive.

Ah, thanks for that, I saw Cex (not a big fan of them) offering just a tenner and assumed they were worthless or something. I'd need to transfer everything before selling it I guess.
