Do you rally need 2gb? DO you have suiper high resolutions or 2 screens?

Having more than 1gb of gfx ram is required for more than just super high resolutions and or multiple displays.

Fair enough - out o finterest when would 2gb be better than 1gb using normal res on one screen. Interested what I could improve at the moment over my 660ti 1gb.

Higher than usual texture resolutions, performance enhancing tricks using mutliple buffers. Rage will allow better textures the more memory your card has and that's just at 1920 x 1080 resolutions.
