Is the firmware up to date and you're switching modes correctly? What connection are you using?

Sorted the problem. I had to change the sync level from 9 to 16.

Has anyone had success with US RGB modded N64?

Excellent! do your games ever black out? (usually when going from 240p to 480i)

Which cable do you use and which firmware are you running on the mini?

The games black out between resolution change due to the Mini's incredibly long handshake, especially pre-firmware 1.6 (IIRC). Newer versions reduce the HDMI handshake but it's still long compared to essentially anything with a HDMI interface.
My setup is kinda complicated, the Mini runs through a HDMI switch/splitter, then through an amplifier and finally to the monitor. HDMI cables are no-brands and from Atlona; the N64 cable is custom made, I got it when I bought the console; RGB cables are no-brand, plus one EU-to-JPN converter running into the RGB adapter supplied with the Mini.

[edit] I still run an old firmware, 1.4.
