Is it Possible to strip drives from Laptops & use them as external HDD's??

Hey guys,

I've now got 2 VERY dead laptops & I'm going to rip the drives out before I skip what's left & I was just wondering if it's possible to pop the drives into Caddies & use them as external drives for when I get my new Laptop?

I think I actually have one of each.

1st Laptop is an archaic Celeron XP based system bought way back in 2004
2nd is a Dual Core Vista bought in 2007
