get a modded jpn prog scan video cable. they're pretty much all alike. www.videogameimports.com can usally be relied upon for quality mods too.

I made my own... and its very good. just as good as the DC vga adaptor, in fact.

All progressive scan games, yes. (must hold B on boot)

... which represents about 90% of ntsc titles.

It's the best thing I bought for my gamecube... the picture quality is amazing and pretty much every game I own supports it (except Jap Super Monkey Ball)

You should see games like F-Zero and Wind Waker through it!

I made mine myself too but they're about the same price as a modded RGB lead to buy.

Take a peek at that link... ignore the dodgy looking site they're pretty trustworthy... I got a wavebird and a GC D cable from them during the summer and it arrived in perfect order.

                avoid scan converters wherever possible

picture quality is washed out and blurry. akin to composite video, but not as good.

I don't have any direct experience with them but I've read that they give a quality comparable or a teenie weeney bit worse than RPG.

Some people swear by them but unless you're really limited to a monitor for gamage I wouldn't bother.

depends how much you want/are prepared to spend on an upscan converter.

You need to spend a few hundred to get an image comparable to the native progressive from a vga cable.
But at the end of the day using VGA is going to give you 720x480 where as using a scaler or line doubler you are only really taking 720x240 and converting it to 720x480. That is a very basic explanation btw.

To put it another way if you transfer vhs to dvd do you expect to get more detail ??
or if you transfer dvd to hi-def do you expect more information within the image ?

The X-rgb is a good way to get an image to a monitor that wont sync at normal pal/ntsc interlaced frequencies, but if using a machine that can do progressive it will be far better.
