I haven't played them, but sidez is a fan, and he told me they were fun little adventure games with very light rpg content.
I get the impression that most important to enjoying these games is the story/characters/artwork.
The games contain a lot of Japanese, enough to have put me off so far. There are some pretty good translation/walkthoughs at gamefaqs, but I imagine playing the Sakura games using these guides would be closer to tourism than participation.
