Pings to the US can be in excess of 100ms or so on top of the pings you normally get to UK servers. I ping about 40-100ms on UK counterstrike servers depending on which isdn connection I use and ping 145-270 to US starwars galaxies servers, depending on isp and which server (east coast or west coast) I use. SWG uses very little bandwidth, I would imagine FFXI to be the same.

I suspect the ping to the US on 56k might be a bit much.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I have a question that's been bothering me. Has cheating started at all, and what measures are they taking to prevent it? With PC and PS2 versions sharing the same servers, a few cheaters could spoil the whole thing.

I got the game today, the patch is taking 3 hours to download on broadband. Not sure wether that's because it's so big or you get a slow speed (it doesn't say) but I'd hate to have to get that on 56k mate, we'd be talking about 8 hours init? All FFXI servers are located in Japan btw.
