    Scratches on Plasma screen

    Hey guys,

Was cleaning the screen at the weekend & noticed that I have a few scratches on the top left hand side of the screen

Everybody else says they aren't noticeable but I know they are there & when the screen is off or on heavy dark/black moments you can definitely see them & it's really winding me up...I'm so pissed off with myself as I must have done something stupid to get them there & I can't for the life of me figure out what.

Now is there anything I can do to get them polished out or am I going to have to bite the bullet & grab a new screen??

    Thanks in advance

    Neil

bit excessive getting a new screen for a few scratches mate?

all screens have imprefections (i have scratches on the bezel, which mostly came out with turtle wax :-) and a few strange pixel lines (althouguh they arent dead pixels)

    lifes too short......

Firstly, I'm no expert, in fact I don't have a clue what i'm talking about BUT...

Are plasmas glass or plastic fronted (mine is bloody heavy so I assume glass?)

There are many products in the car detailing world designed to remove (light) scratches. I'd consider looking further into that.

Sorry, not really too much help I suppose..

Lol I know but I'm that anal about the condition of my stuff & now I know they are there I get my eye drawn to them all the time & it's annoying me to the point of distraction.

        Plasma's are glass fronted.

I was hoping that some of those types of products will work.
I'm going to go & have a nosy round car detailing forums now & see what they might recommend for light scratches.

I always thought those products involved polishing with a buffer & disc though so might be too hardcore for what I need.

Got to be worth a look though.

Thanks for the input anyway guys.

Be careful with cleaning with any type of abrasive if you have an anti-glare coating as you could make it look worse.

That was something I was just reading up on & I expect the Plasma does have such a coating.

            So that's no go

Bugger it...might just have to put up with them at this rate

                Panasonic G20

I'm going to try & get some pics tonight, once I've used some screen cleaner & a new microfibre cloth on it.

I'm thinking I've dusted it with some grit or something on the cloth & rubbed a bit too hard causing the marks in the glass

if you cant notice it at a distance, try and forget about it (i know it can be hard to do at the start), but remember, everyones set has imperfections! Best thing is to not go looking for them!!

Why not ask Panasonic to see what they recommend. You might be able to replace the glass (No idea if this is doable)

I think you're going to have to replace the panel to get rid of them. The G20 has the "bare" panel, there's no "one sheet of glass" on the front to replace.

Don't use a glass cleaner - it will probably mess up the AR filter.

Sorry to go off topic, but my friend has a 50inch Samsung that his kid smashed the screen of. How much does a panel cost and is hard to source one for an older model? It's 2 years old.

                          Thanks Lyris.

Oh well guess I'll just have to put up with them.
Can't really justify replacing it yet...maybe later this year but right now the cash is tied up elsewhere.

Might be the excuse I need to move onto a Panny 3D Plasma though lol

Lol, I was just coming in here to say perhaps this is a good excuse for an upgrade mate

How old is your set btw? My brothers Panasonic plasma went wrong last week and just squeaked in under the 3 year guarantee so he was pretty lucky. Well unlucky too as his Samsung monitor was the cause of the problem...it went POP and shorted the electrics and the surge affected the 46" plasma >.<
