Talk about your current PC set up

I'm sure we've had these before, can't see it though. Tell us about your current system, the performance, if you're happy with it and what you're thinking of upgrading etc.

Mine is a bit of a mixed bag, got a nice GFX card put the CPU is the pits (looking to upgrade to a 3 year old Phenom II asap 0_o ), the ram is outdated and where the case is for HTPC really it isn't ideal for gaming, there is barely any room for anything to breath in there, though the gaming performance is actually pretty good just need to eek out those few extra frames with a new CPU.

    Case - Antek NSK 2480
    PSU - Antec 650w
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H. Fitted with a Sythe Shuriken Big CPU Cooler
    Processor - AMD Athlon II x 4 620 Quad Core 2.6ghz
Graphics - EVGA GTX 570 Superclocked
    RAM - 4GB DDR2
    Optical - LG HDDVD/Bluray
    1 x 1TB Hard Drive

    Oooh nice topic.

The GFX card really affects the gaming performance obviously. That 570 is in a different league to the rest of your setup but it's allowing your system to work as a gaming rig anyway.

    Here's mine:
    Case - Fractal Designs R3
    PSU - Corsair 650w
    M/board - Asus P8P67 R3
Processor - Intel Quad Core i5 2500K clocked at 4.5GHz (It can handle 5 if I need it to)
Cooler - Corsair H60 Liquid Cooler (with hindsight I'd have stuck with an air cooler but it is nice and quiet).
Graphics - XFX 6870 Black Edition
    Ram - 8GB DDR3
Optical - Some External LG DVD Writer
    1 x 1TB Caviar Black with Win 7 on
1 x 750GB Caviar Black with OSX on
1 x Samsung 21" 1080p monitor. Not got specific but it was about a ton. Works fine.
    Microsoft Sidewinder X4 keyboard
Cyborg R.A.T 5 mouse (looks utterly ridiculous but is totally awesome. I love it) and a massive (almost A3 size) Steelseries mousemat

I'm super happy with it. Overclocking has made no difference to any of my actual PC games, apart from Arma II but it does mean that the PS2 and Dolphin emulators can run with mega upscaling. Only games I can't turn to max settings and still get 60fps+ are batman AC and Witcher 2 and I only have to dial back a little bit to hit 60 on them.

Things I would change if I could rewind and re-spec:

    1. Air cooling - The Corsair is overkill. It keeps the system no cooler than a ?30 air system yet it costs ?60 and restricts your fan setup in the case. Also, if the pump fails there's no indication other than your cpu getting hot whereas with an air system either the fan spins or it doesn't. You can see if it's failed (this is my second H60).
    2. I'd probably have gone with an nVidia card for the tessellation. I went with AMD because I thought it'd make it easier to turn it into a hackintosh but in reality that isn't really an issue.
    3. I'd have got a 3d monitor supporting 120Hz mode after seeing my friend's. Looks so nice at 120Hz.

      Case: Antec 1200
      PSU: Antec 750W High Current
Motherboard: Asus M5A99X EVO 990X fitted with CNPS10X Performa
      Processor: AMD Phenom II x 4 965 @ 4.0ghz (was 3.4)
Graphics: Powercolor AMD Radeon HD 6950 2GB (additional shaders unlocked)
      Ram: 12gb DDR3
      Optical: Samsung Bluray Drive
      HDD: Corsair M4 SSD 128GB & 2TB Hitachi

Looking to upgrade my Radeon 6950 to a GTX 680 soon, i'm a silly bugger for all things new and powerful and for the 3d performance.

Indeed totally, I made an early mistake near 2 years back now by buying a computer as an HTPC, played a few games on the HD5670 I originally had in it, realised I could get back into PC gaming and it went from there. Looks like if I got to a reasonable Phenom II (965BE most likely), my gaming performance will be only a few frames off a strong intel (aside from CPU intensive titles), but that will see this system maxed out so next time will be starting from scratch

Zero9x, envy that 680, should be rediculously good.

          Case...I can't recall. It's a full tower however.
          Corsair 750w PSU
          Gigabyte EX58-UD5
          Core i7 920 w/Corsair V8 heatsink
          12GB DDR3 (3GBx2 banks)
          FirePro 8800
          SoundBlaster Audigy
1x OCZ Vertex 2 (OS drive, was a Western Digital Velociraptor)
1x OCZ Agility 2 (swap drive, was a Western Digital Raptor)
Adaptec RAID 3405 with 4x Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB drives, set up as RAID 5 array
          2x Pioneer DVD-ROMs
          1x 3.5" floppy drive
          1x additional USB 3.0 card
          various Noctua and Scythe fans
          2x 24" monitors (Dell 2408WFP and U2410).

I've built it with 3D graphics in mind and I went for a RAID array because...well, because I could. My main storage area is a NAS, the video editing work I do from time to time hardly needs an incredibly fast array, but, well, I could and so I bought an extra RAID controller and four disks.

I have a logitech G700 mouse and its the smoothest mouse i have ever used. It is spectacular.

My keyboard is microsoft comfort curve, bought it as it claims its good against spilages. Destroyed many a keyboard in my time spilling stuff on them.

My new PC is an off-the-shelf Gateway model:
                        i7 2600
                        8GB DDR3
2TB HDD but only 5400rpm (brings my w7 experience rating down to 4.7 while everything else is 5.8)
Dual booting w7 Home Premium 64bit and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
My keyboard is awesome, logitech solar powered wireless keyboard - no batteries.
                        Acer 21" and 13.4" screens, 1920x1080+1366x768.

                        I forget the rest.

Ach don't worry my spec will make you feel a LOT better, probably spent more on monitor than I did on PC then again I don't need a phat PC for the type of games I play on PC.
Compare it to my previous PC which was an AGP AMD2600 and Pentium 4....I'm surprised I could still run stuff on them pretty well, until I bought a Dustforce and Vessel on Steam, both games killed my olde rigs.

Mine was bought in readiness for Crysis 2 I think.

                            Intel i7 930 2.80GHz
                            6.00GB
                            Radeon HD5800
                            running 2 x Dell 1920x1200 monitors.
                            SB X-XFI soundcard
80GB SSD with Windows 7 Premium (64 bit)
                            2 x 1TB HDD

                            4TB NAS attached.

Still runs most games decently, even at the natives resolutions.

                            May update next year.
