    PC Gamers : What will next gen consoles need to do to lure you (back) ?

    I largely abandoned my PS3 for PC games about a year ago. Right now I don't imagine I'd be tempted by whatever MS, Sony or Nintendo do next gen but I suppose I should never say never. Anyway, for any of you in the same boat as me I wondered what next gen consoles would have to do to get you back on board?

    I don't really think I'll care. I only own a 360 of the current gen consoles now along with a copy of SSFIV AE 2012 and FF13 and 13-2 that I'll sell when I beat them.

    I wouldn't say I'm a PC gamer per se but I've been gaming on PC most recently.

      Well, there's only one game series I care about enough that would have done it and that's Metal Gear but I've read that MGS5 will come to PCs anyway. If the next PS had 6 Cell Processors, 8 gig of RAM and an insane graphics card, and was gonna have the definitive MGS5 with Move controls and was cheap enough then I'd be tempted I guess!

        Nothing really, there's nothing game wise i'm looking forward too that much so i'll just play whatever is on the PC (BS: infinite, Dirt 4, Aliens Colonial Marines).

        I'll probably get the Sony console because usually they are decent bits of kit AV wise. I only own PS3 & Dreamcast at the minute, and really, could do with only one of them!

        If they put Steam on consoles and did the sales for ?4 games that have been out a few months, ill probably be on that, they won't though will they hehe.

          I don't really like the GUI of consoles currently.

          Like I'm sat at my PC almost all of the time and I can just hit my windows key and click Skyrim and play it in seconds.

            It has been the complete opposite for me for quite some time.
            Yes, I will buy the next generation of consoles (sooner or later, depending on the games offered exclusively on each platform) and I will continue to keep my PC up-to-date, though I doubt it will be geared toward gaming.
            Right now I'm playing Legend of Grimrock which is not exactly power-intensive and the new Sins of a Solar Empire, while good-looking, will probably run effortlessy on most cards, even professional 3D cards like the one I have.
            I will keep any eye out for flight sims (like Jet Thunder and any possible update to DCS A-10C), RTSs (please please please Relic, Homeworld 3) and BattleTech-related stuff, but consoles with will be my main gaming outlet for the next years.

              Interesting views so far. I do like to sit in the living room and game on the big TV and whilst this is possible with my current set up it is a bit of a hassle. Also no surround sound in the living room from the PC. I think I can solve that with some kind of AV switcher box though.

                What do you guys use as a controller when you need to use one?

                  360 blait, what else is there. Was using it for DiRT 2 last night and a bit of Microsoft Flight! Has rumble and the lot.

                    You don't use controllers on PC.

                      Is that the PC version of it or do you have one of those wireless receivers? Playing Super Meat Boy on the keyboard is a horrible experience so I need to pick something up if I want to play anything. In the future I would love to get more into PC gaming rather than console stuff as I feel consoles have lost their way a bit in recent times.

                        Having seen in that other thread that a satisfactory PC can be built for not much more than the original RRP of a PS3, which I presume will be the price of a PS4 too, I actually find myself as a console gamer being seriously tempted into PC gaming for the first time, given that a PC has many other useful functions too over and above what I get from a laptop.

                        I'll inevitably buy a PS4 (or possibly the xbox 3) at some point but I'm thinking perhaps investing in a PC might actually save me some cash if it allows me to wait out for a price drop on the consoles a year or two after release. It might even stop me from a day 1 Wii-U with Pikmin 3 purchase but whether that'd be a good thing (a la 3DS ?100 drop) or bad (a la Wii sold out for months) is debatable.

                          I've always had a reasonable "gaming" PC. In real terms you don't really need to even upgrade that often.

                            Any wired 360 pad is fine, it's the official pad for Windows 7. You can use a wireless receiver though ive heard (though not experienced) a few games may have issues.

                              When the next gen consoles come out it will be the same as last time. I played Quake 4 on my new 360 and felt justified for the P4/Nvidia 7800GTX setup, the game was way better on PC. Then as the months past the games on 360 got better and better and then there was a magical time where 360 games looked as good/better than my PC and the thought of buying a new PC made no sense at all. Automatic updates and a friends list convinced me that consoles were the best fit for me.

                              I now am impatient for a new next gen and feel the timing is right for a new PC. 18 months of playing at the "Best possible" settings and the new generation of consoles will be settling in and I will then move over to console gaming for a few years.

                              95% of new PC games will be directly influenced by the capabilities of the next generation consoles, so really it is in everyone's interests that the new next gen arrives.

                              The difference will be 1080p 30FPS on console and 1440p/multiscreen 60fps on PC. I will easily move back to console gaming for a period before getting fed up with the technology and moving on to PC again.

                              The cycle has been with me for 16+ years.

                              Atari ST -->| Megadrive/SNES
                              PC 1 -->| N64/PS1/Playstation 2
                              PC 2 -->| PS3/Xbox 360/Wii
                              PC 3 -->| Extended 360/PS3 lifecyle
                              PC 4 -->| Xbox 720/PS4

                              Lets see....

                              Voodoo 2-> Voodoo 3500 -> Geeforce 4 4400Ti -> 7800GTX -> ATI 5850 -> (NOT SURE!)

                              I love tech and consoles are priced at a level where you can purchase without too much bother, so I'll surely purchase the new ones too.
