Question regarding download speeds via Steam and Origin

Soooo, if I'm getting speeds of 1mb/s through Origin but only 50% of that through Steam, what could be considered the problem?

Any suggestions?

Steam:

Setting>location> 'check here to see where your downloading from (be it Paris or London)' and switch it to New York.

This is what I do whenever Steam is taking ages to download - tons more servers in New York.

Still seems to average at 500kb/s
