Power socket style network adapters - any good?

I've just moved into a new flat, only to find the master BT socket is nowhere near the living room. I've tried use a secondary socket in the living room to connect the router through, but it's not stable at all and cuts out fairly regularly.

Most of my equipment is wifi enabled but there are a few things that are hard wired like the 360, Blu-ray player, TV etc.

The landlord is apprehensive about allowing me to pin down network cables into the skirting boards and door frames and a friend suggested I look into the network adapters that plug into existing power sockets and turn your home leccy cabling into a network. Are these any good at all? I don't use the 360 for online gaming, but I do watch a lot of internet TV through the likes of iPlayer and Netflix and need a stable connection.

I've seen these on Amazon and they've had good reviews, though would it worth plumping for the gigabit versions?

If anybody has any alternative suggestions, these would also be welcome. Thanks in advance!

I bought those about a month back.

I'm never going to use wireless on my desktop ever again after using these, I was a bit dubious after reading a few people had woe, I can assure you they have been fantastic from my experience so far.

They do work. I'm using a pair at the moment as my daughter's PC is in a wifi black spot. They do have a habit of failing though, as in one day they just stop working.

Such adpators were unreliable, often requiring a second power outlet to draw their power from and being very prone to sudded loss of connectivity for whatever reason, even on good power lines.
Nowadays they are far more reliable, still not as good as a proper ethernet cable, but unless your house's electrical system is incredibly old and without a stable output, they will work fine.

I have a pair at home that I just found the other day. Used to use them in a part of the house that just could not get a signal, if you want to pay P&P for them you can have them, though it might take a few days for me to get them out.

Ooh, that'd be fantastic if you could - many thanks for that. I'll send you a PM.
