How do I transfer old gamertag/score/achievements to a new 360?

Thursday this week I return home to discover my pride and joy- my xbox 360 had been killed by my 2 yr old nephew.
The HDMI output was shredded which I understand is part of the motherboard and to replace would cost more than a new console.

SO off to amazon to buy a new 360 courtesy of my sister, but how do I transfer my profile and all my game saves etc?

-Some people say I have to buy the HDD transfer kit...
-Another guy says I just have to sign into live on the new 360 and do account recovery...
-And guy in my gym says I have to go onto xbox.com, sign in, then key in my new machines serial number...

    Which one is it?
    Any insight would be appreciated.

If you have a USB stick you can transfer your profile and saves using that.

You'll need to transfer your digital licenses to your new console anyway via the Xbox site.

Pretty much all of the above...

        - An HDD Transfer cable is the easiest & quickest way, but a USB memory stick will suffice if you just want to move save files - XBLA games or DLC can always be re-downloaded once you're up and running on the new console.

        - If you have a Gold LIVE membership, then you can make use of the Cloud feature and negate the need for a USB stick.

        - Your gamertag/profile can also be moved onto a USB stick just like the game saves. If you don't have one, you'll need to do the account recovery on the new console.

        - The serial number requirement is for transferring your "rights" to any digital content you might have bought/downloaded. This is an optional procedure, but if you don't do it, you will have to be online in order to play XBLA games etc.

Why don't you just transfer the HDD from the old one to the new one? They aren't keyed like PS3 right?
          Kept you waiting, huh?

If he has an old type 360, you can't move the HD to the new S type, different caddies. He'd have to take the caddy off the HD and put on one for the S type 360. To transfer, you'd need the cable to connect the new 360 to the old HD, all the software to do the transfer is now part of the 360 dashboard.

The bare drive will fit as they are standard 2.5" SATA drives. You can buy new style caddies on ebay to stop it rattling around.

Find great deals on eBay for 360 S Hdd Case. Shop with confidence.

If you move the drive do a license transfer to your new console.
