    Replacing SNES cart battery

Would this be a suitable battery holder?

I'm concerned that the legs on the holder might not match the holes in the PCB.

I'm have trouble getting the battery out of the existing tabs. Also, can you solder the tabs directly to the new battery without destroying the battery?

    Thanks.

I really would not attempt soldering anything to a battery unless you want it to explode.

How are the tabs attached to the battery in SNES carts?

If they're anything like Game Boy cart batteries, I would imagine they are soldered to the tabs. You will need to get a thin screwdriver tip and wedge it between the tab and the battery, and twist it back and forth to pry up the tab. It will look like ****, but there isn't really another way. You CAN use a soldering iron on the tab to melt the solder but it really isn't recommended, and certainly not when putting in the new battery. If you just sellotape the battery tightly between the tabs it should be fine. The trouble will be wrapping the sellotape around it, because it will mean sliding the tape underneath, which is difficult to do without it getting stuck. I'm basing all this on replacing Game Boy batteries, but from what I've seen, it's a similar set up.

Thanks for the adivce. I ended up just taping a new battery in and it seems to be working fine.

Yeah, you can tape it. Soldering is more secure though obviously.

That battery powers the volatile RAM chip that keeps the save intact, thus when the battery expires the save is gone.

I'm going to replace that RAM chip in a Pokemon Yellow cart with a non-volatile RAM chip soon. This should make the save permanent and not require a battery anymore.

Theoretically should work with SNES carts too, depends on the chip used I guess.
